A ‘golden’ moment with a TV star

Northwest Christian University alumnus and reality television star Todd Hoffman posed for photographs with NCU students after a Feb. 6 chapel service at the Eugene school. Hoffman attended NCU in the late 1980s.

An Oregon resident, Hoffman is the star of Discovery Channel’s long-running television program Gold Rush. Hoffman, along with Hollywood producer Jose Behar, talked with students about how their Christian faith leads their work in the entertainment industry.

Gold Rush follows the gold mining operations of various family-run mining companies mostly in Alaska, and the Klondike region of Dawson City, Yukon, Canada. The show also followed Hoffman and his company, 316 Mining, prospecting in Oregon and North and South America. In its eighth season, Gold Rush continues to be one of Discovery’s most watched shows and anchors the network’s reality programming.

However, Hoffman surprised many fans of the show nationally later last month when he announced that he is leaving Gold Rush after the current TV season concludes in order to pursue other endeavors.
