HILLSBORO — Only two weekends after Oregon-based international evangelist Andrew Palau holds a major festival outreach this summer in Eugene, a good friend of the Palau team will hold his own outreach in a local stadium here.
Portland-based evangelist Jose Zayas has announced that on Sunday, Aug. 12, he will be joined by Grammy-award winning recording artist Lecrae and musicians Phil Wickham, and Hollyn for a one-night, free-admission outreach at Hillsboro Stadium, 4450 N.E. Century Blvd.
The event title is Good News Today. It is a collaborative effort among local churches and businesses.
“Good News Today has been years in the making,” said Zayas. “Our family has lived here for 15 years and I’ve spent most of my time traveling to other parts of the United States and the world sharing the Good News of Jesus. For the past five years, churches in Hillsboro have hosted united prayer gatherings throughout the city with hundreds of Christians asking God to do something great in our region. “We felt that the time is right to do something big and united in Hillsboro — to invite everyone to come together and to hear (again) how following Jesus makes a difference.”
Zayas spent seven years on staff with Andrew Palau’s father, Beaverton-based evangelist Luis Palau, before launching his own organization in 2001.
“It’s always good when churches work together to love and serve the community and share the Good News,” said Kevin Palau, president of the Luis Palau Association and Andrew Palau’s brother. “Jose loves the (Portland) Westside and has always worked collaboratively with others, for the good of our region. I can’t wait to be there.”
Local pastors are endorsing Good News Today.
“God has been uniting the churches in the Hillsboro area through prayer and worship … I believe that something great is going to happen,” said James Gleason, lead pastor at Sonrise Church. “Not only will lives experience the love of Jesus, they will witness the unity of the gathered Church.”
“As a pastor in the city of Hillsboro, I am thrilled to be a part of Good News Today,” said Justin Peterson, pastor of teaching and leadership at Colossae Church of Hillsboro. “ We simply want to see every person in Hillsboro meet Jesus and experience life following Him. We are grateful to play a small role in that mission, alongside dozens of other great churches. ”
“Music draws people together,” said Zayas. “That’s why we’ve invited Lecrae, Phil Wickham, and Hollyn to join. And following Jesus draws people together. I hope Christians invite friends and family to come. It will be fun. The music and message will point people to the hope found in Jesus.”
