PORTLAND — The founder of two national outreaches will be the featured speaker as thousands of people gather again in “Portland’s living room” this month to express their deep concern over the milllions of lives lost to abortion each year.
Bryan Kemper of Ohio founded Rock for Life, which promotes the pro-life cause through music and education, and is founding president of Stand True Ministries, a Christ-centered group aiming to awaken American youth to life concerns.
It is affiliated with Gospel of Life Ministries, an interdenominational organization, and with Priests for Life, a New York-based Roman Catholic outreach, for which Kemper is youth outreach director.
Kemper will speak at the annual Roe v. Wade Memorial Rally, from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 18 at Pioneer Courthouse Square in downtown Portland. Sponsored by Oregon Right to Life, Oregon Family Council and Christian News Northwest, the event coincides with the anniversary of the Jan. 22, 1973 U.S. Supreme Court decision legalizing abortion. Since then more than 57 million babies have been killed by abortion.
In 1987, Kemper started his work in the Christian music industry. He was determined to be a rock star, to stand on a stage and share his testimony between songs, but now says God had other plans. In 1993, he combined his passion for music and pro-life in one organization, Rock For Life.
Since then, Kemper has shared his testimony with a variety of audiences both in the U.S. and worldwide. He has spoken at high schools and universities worldwide, including Harvard, Princeton, Notre Dame, Queens University in Northern Ireland, Cardiff University in Wales and more.
He has been a regular guest on cable TV’s Politically Incorrect with Bill Maher and co-hosted his own call-in cable show in Portland. He has been featured on MTV, radio shows, newspapers, and magazines including the cover of the New York Times. He has also been featured in three documentary movies. He is author of Social Jus-tice Begins in the Womb.
