It was a $15 million project years in the making, but all it took was a very quick snip of a ribbon under beautiful sunny skies July 17 to mark the completion of Union Gospel Mission of Salem’s new men’s facility at 777 Commercial St. N.E.
With a total 57,000 square feet, the new building is more than double the size of the longtime men’s facility at 345 Commercial, and is located adjacent to the mission’s thrift store. It also doubles the sleeping space for homeless individuals, ranging from dorm-style shelters to transitional housing and apartment-style space for people moving through UGM’s recovery program.
Hundreds attended the grand opening, which also featured a “Walk for Hope and Fun Run,” live music, a kids zone, and building tours.
Much praise was given to God for His provision to the mission ministry.
