14th Mission ConneXion set for next month

PORTLAND — “Without Borders” is the theme as Mission ConneXion Northwest — one of the region’s biggest annual Christian events — returns next month for its 14th run.
The free-admission event takes place Friday night and Saturday, Jan. 15 and 16, at Sunset Presbyterian Church, 14986 N.W. Cornell Road, with a preliminary Leadership ConneXion event preceding during the day on Friday.
Over the years, Mission ConneXion has drawn an estimated aggregate attendance as high as 20,000. In addition to plenary sessions with keynote speakers, it offers scores of workshops and exhibits on missions. Keynoters this year are Leroy Barber, Steve Hawthorne, Steve Moore and Bob Goff.
Barber, from Portland, has dedicated more than 20 years to eradicating poverty, confronting homelessness, restoring local neighborhoods, and healing racism. He has founded multiple organizations, and authored two books. He is on staff at Imago Dei Community church in Portland.
From Atlanta, Ga., Moore is executive Director of Nexleader, an emerging generation leadership development initiative of the Association for Biblical Higher Education. Former executive director of Missio Nexus, he has provided leadership for teams serving in Europe, Asia, Africa, South America and the Caribbean.
Hawthorne is founder and director of WayMakers, a Texas-based mobilization ministry focused on seeing Christ glorified by obedient, worshiping movements in every people group. He is also co-editor of the popular course Perspectives on the World Christian Movement.
After a trip to India where he witnessed extreme human rights violations, Bob Goff founded Restore International in 2003. Since then Restore has branched out to Uganda, Nepal, Somalia and Iraq. An attorney and professor, Goff is also New York Times’ best selling author of Love Does and serves as the honorary consult for the Republic of Uganda to the United States.
Mission ConneXion Northwest was founded by Bill MacLeod, who still serves as the event’s executive director. MacLeod has a 30-year background as a missions pastor and a mobilizer for a wide range of Christian ministries. He is assisted by many volunteers in staging the annual event.
